Tata Harrier EV First Drive Review: Range, Comfort & Power in One Bold Electric SUV

Tata Motors has raised the bar with its latest flagship electric SUV, the Harrier EV. It is now available in three personasAdventure, Fearless, and Empowered, along with a sinister-looking Stealth Edition. In essence, it’s an electrified evolution of the beloved ICE Harrier, with visual updates like a blanked-out grille, aero-efficient alloy wheels, animated lights, and new bumpers.

Design & Exterior

The Harrier EV stays true to its muscular ICE sibling, while embracing a futuristic flair. Its bold stance and road presence are complemented by improved aerodynamics, sleek LED lighting, and striking alloys. With four vibrant paint options, plus the Stealth black theme, there’s a version for every persona.

Cabin & Features

Inside, the Harrier EV features a dual-tone grey-and-white cabin with premium touches. Highlights include:

  • Ventilated front seats
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • Dual 12.3-inch screens
  • Ample storage & space for 5 adults

Though ergonomically sound, the second-row comfort and panel finish leave some room for improvement.

Performance & Range

The Harrier EV offers two battery options:

  • 65kWh (Standard)
  • 75kWh (Tested) with up to 627km range (claimed)

The 75kWh variant delivers power through a Quad-Wheel Drive (QWD) setup, combining:

  • Rear PMSM Motor – 238bhp
  • Front Induction Motor – 158bhp
  • Combined Torque: 540Nm

Acceleration is confident, with swift charging via a 120kWh DC fast charger (20-80% in 25 minutes).

Should You Buy It?

If you’re seeking a commanding, high-riding EV with long range, tech-rich features, and off-road potential, the Harrier EV is a convincing choice. It sits competitively between the Mahindra XUV.e9 and Hyundai Creta EV, and despite some fit-finish quirks, it feels futuristic, bold, and capable.

Verdict: A strong contender in India’s premium electric SUV segment—just ensure you’re okay with the premium price tag and minor cabin inconsistencies.
